“NORTHBROOK, IL — Northbrook resident and business owner Jonathan Carroll was selected by local officials and sworn in as state representative earlier this month, succeeding retiring Rep. Elaine Nekritz. He vowed to continue her legacy and demonstrate strong, independent leadership while representing the 57th District.

“As a former special education teacher and now as a counselor in private practice, I have spent my entire life serving my community,” said Carroll. “As state representative, I’ll serve as an independent voice fighting for quality schools, tax relief for middle-class families, and common-sense laws that put our families first – not the Springfield insiders.”

Carroll and his wife, Katrina, live with their two children in Northbrook. He’s a former special education teacher who worked at schools throughout the north and northwest suburbs. Later, he founded Carroll Educational Group, where he coaches and advises children and adults to overcome life, educational and professional challenges.

“As a child in special education myself, I was told that college wasn’t an option for me; but with a lot of hard work and the right support, I’ve been able to receive a master’s degree in special education, allowing me help children and families facing those same challenges I know,” Carroll said. “I’m going to apply those same principles of hard work, service and team work to the challenges Illinois faces.”

Carroll also serves on the Northbrook Community Relations Commission and has volunteered his time as a youth sports coach. The Carrolls belong to Temple Beth El in Northbrook.

Outgoing state Rep. Elaine Nekritz, the assistant majority leader and a 15-year veteran of the Illinois House who announced this summer she would resign before the next election, expressed confidence in her chosen successor.

“Jonathan Carroll has spent his career helping children and their families realize their full potential,” said outgoing state Rep. Elaine Nekritz.

“Jonathan’s proven dedication to the people he serves and unique experience as an educator, father and small business owner will bring a fresh perspective to the General Assembly. I am confident that Jonathan will tackle his new role as state representative in the same way that he’s tackled every other challenge in his life – with relentless persistence, an open mind and a willingness to think outside of the box to solve the toughest challenges.”

The 57th District includes all or parts of Buffalo Grove, Northbrook, Wheeling, Prospect Heights, Arlington Heights, Mt. Prospect, Palatine and Glenview. Carroll’s full-time constituent services office is located at 830 S. Buffalo Grove Rd., Suite 120, in Buffalo Grove.
