Transparency in Public Utilities

Dear Friends,

I hope your 2019 is off to a great start. I’m very excited about the new legislative session and working for the people of the 57th District. I’m writing today to inform you of an issue my office has been trying to address.

Last summer, communities in our district expressed concerns over Illinois American Water. From maintenance records to overcharging, there was a lot of unanswered questions. After hearing your stories and talking with other residents, these concerns became my concerns.  During a town hall meeting, representatives from Illinois American Water promised to answer several tough questions. Like everyone else not associated with their company, I left the room more frustrated and disappointed than I came in. It was time to take action.

I heard your concerns, and filed House Bill 876 which calls for more transparency from local utilities like Illinois American Water. Telling us that they would get back to us with answers isn’t good enough. They still haven’t provided us with the information we’ve requested. This bill will not just apply to Illinois American Water, but every public utility that operates within our state. If Illinoisans have to use these companies to get basic utilities delivered to their homes, I believe they should be able to get that information, and receive it in a timely manner.

As long as I am in office, I am going to fight for my constituents. When I hear that people don’t feel like they’re being heard, I will be that voice. If you ever have any concerns, comments, or questions, please reach out to my office and let me know.

Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy 2019!

Jonathan
